Reishi is considered highly medicinal for its immunomodulating and adaptogenic qualities. Immunomodulators work to strengthen the immune system over time, lessening your likelihood of getting sick when exposed to pathogens. It is best taken as a tonic every day as opposed to other immune stimulating herbs like Echinacea or Elderberry that tend to work better at stimulating the immune systems when taken on an as needed basis. As such, because it is strengthening to the immune system rather than stimulating, Reishi can be a fabulous support for those with autoimmune issues or those recovering from cancer.

Reishi is also a fantastic adaptogen. Adaptogens are our support blocks for emotional health. They help the body adapt to stressors of all kinds and promote and restore normal physiological and mental functioning. Reishi is specifically indicated for people who tend to come off of a stressful period and then immediately get sick. Reishi has also been found to inhibit platelet aggregation, and to lower blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar.

*Double extracted means using both water (tea) and alcohol (tincture) to make an extraction of a plant or mushroom. We use a high alcohol content tincture process for at least a month (4 weeks), followed by a water decoction of the same marc (mushroom material left after straining the alcohol tincture). Then we add these two together, as each solution is going to have different constituents.

We pay careful attention to using high quality organic herbs that are tinctured at the right ratios for their specific needs. For instance, some herbs do better when they are tinctured using fresh herbs over dried, and different constituents are pulled out when using higher or lower alcohol contents. To ensure the highest potency, our tinctures are first made as simples (single plant extracts) and then combined to the perfect ratios from there.
